Chocolate cake is difficult to make, right? Well, actually, no. Not as difficult as it may seem. In fact, with the recipe on this page, you will be putting together an absolutely beautiful one bowl chocolate cake in next-to-no time at all. Let’s take a little look, shall we?
Ingredients and equipment list
If you wish to follow this recipe, you are going to need 2 x 9” round cake tins. You will also need a mixing bowl. Obviously, you will also need access to an oven in order to bake this altogether.
- 2 cups of white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup of boiling water
- 1 cup of milk, cold
- 1 and ¾ cups of all-purpose flour.
- ¾ cup of cocoa powder, unsweetened is preferable, otherwise it will get too swet with the sugar.
- ½ cup of vegetable oil.
- 1 ½ teaspoons of baking powder
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
- 1 and a ½ teaspoons of baking soda
- 1 teaspoon of salt.
As mentioned previously, this recipe is not going to be difficult to make in the slightest. Even if you have never prepared this before, you should have it completely ready, and this includes being cooked, in a little under an hour.
Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees. At the same time, you are going to want to start to prepare your cake tins. You can do this by greasing them. This is an absolutely vital step. After all, you are going to want to ensure that the cakes just slide out of the pan when they are ready! You, obviously, do not need to grease the ‘tin’ if you are using silicone bakeware. It will just slide out automatically when you are done.
Grab your mixing bowl and put in your cocoa powder, baking powder, salt, baking soda, flour, and sugar. You will want to mix these gently before mixing in your eggs, vanilla extract, oil, and milk. Now, grab a mix, or do this by the power of your hand, and mix at an average speed for a couple of minutes. Once you have mixed it up a little, add your boiling water. Mix it up a small amount more, don’t worry if the batter is thin, it is meant to be. You can now divide the mixture evenly between the two cake tins that you prepared earlier.
By this point, your oven should have heated up fully. Slide the cakes in and bake for about thirty minutes. Test to make sure that the cake is cooked by sliding a tooth pick into it. The cake should be cooked in the middle, obviously. Let the pan cool for ten minutes after taking it out. You will now have two separate cakes. If you wish to put them together, you can put a nice chocolate icing on the top of one cake and slot the other cake on top of it. Either way, you are going to end up with something that tastes delicious.
